Démos, a Czech company with international reach, is among the leading materials suppliers for furniture production in CEE. The portfolio includes furniture edges, fittings, board materials, furniture hinges, drawer pulls, and other essential items available through the growingly popular online platform Démos24Plus.

The company features materials from renowned global manufacturers and continuously expands its product collections to align with the latest trends and customer demands. With their growing focus on selling online, the company decided to upgrade its online store with Luigi’s Box products.

Upgrading the online store with Luigi’s Box

In 2019, Démos began exploring ways to improve its search functionality after Luigi’s Box Analytics revealed problem areas like too many no-result searches and low search conversions.

Démos previously faced challenges with a search system that was costly and time-consuming to update. Search results lacked product parameters, making it harder for customers to refine searches. Additionally, manual product prioritization across five domains was unsustainable.

After discovering Luigi’s Box, they could start solving these challenges one by one. After implementing Luigi’s Box Analytics first, the company decided to gradually upgrade its website with Search, Recommender, and Product Listing to further improve the functionality.

Allowing smooth integration

Any significant changes to Démos’s website risked alienating users. That’s why Démos wanted a solution that could work with the interface and provide a design that would fit without changing the website structure. Even a small replacement of any of the buttons could pose trouble for the shopping experience.

Luigi’s Box worked closely with Démos’s development agency, Shopsys, to ensure seamless integration. Custom APIs were implemented to handle different availability and pricing levels, preserving the familiar interface while upgrading functionality.

Getting options for cost-effective search modifications

Démos’s original search system became costly and time-intensive to update, reaching its functional limits as its catalog grew. The Démos team needed a solution that would get regular updates, efficient support, as well as a great service to help them save time and money.

Luigi’s Box eliminated these issues by providing a flexible, cost-effective search solution that adapts quickly to new requirements without financial strain.

Allowing multiple carts in Search and Autocomplete

Démos needed a way to accommodate multiple carts for different orders in search and autocomplete, making the ordering process clear and confusion-free, as well as more flexible and efficient. The multiple carts are unique for Démos, as they can separate carts based on types of items, segments, or other filters.

With Luigi’s Box Search, the results now include the option to add items to different baskets, streamlining the process and improving the overall shopping experience. This option makes it easy for customers to click on “add to cart” easily from Search and Autocomplete, while they also retain the option to choose the cart.

Getting working synonyms across domains

Managing search synonyms was a significant challenge for Démos, as each of their five domains required up to 2,500 synonyms to cover various product names and terminology.

Luigi’s Box simplified this process by enabling the seamless import of 2,500 synonyms for each domain, ensuring search accuracy and consistency across all domains. Management is easy thanks to the Synonyms Management feature, and Démos can also utilize Synonyms Suggestions to expand their synonyms for convenience during shopping further. Synonyms Suggestions is a feature that automatically suggests convenient synonyms based on Search queries from customers.

Providing personalized product discovery

With over 80,000 products, Démos faced the challenge of ensuring customers could find the most relevant items tailored to their needs. As a B2B business, their goal was to personalize product discovery for these types of customers, so they wouldn’t have to search for too long whenever they wish to find the right items.

Personalization uses Luigi’s Box Analytics data to utilize customer profiles, session clicks, cart events, purchases, and impressions to deliver a highly personalized shopping experience, helping the right customers find the right products. This change is visible especially in product lists, thanks to Luigi’s Box Product Listing.

It uses advanced Product Ranking to reorder products in the lists based on a combination of signals that favor high-margin and relevant products. It also personalizes the selection based on customers’ previous purchases and views so that more interesting products for each customer are placed at the top of the list.

Localized product discovery options

Démos needed a tailored solution for their Polish domain, where they needed to restrict customers from certain regions to avoid problems with product availability.

Luigi’s Box enabled these restrictions by programming a transmission of this information to ensure the correct products are displayed based on location

Allowing search with old product codes

Many Démos customers used outdated product codes from old catalogs, leading to difficulties in finding updated products.

Luigi’s Box resolved this by redirecting searches for old product codes to the new ones with Query Redirects, Automated Redirects from Search and Product Code Recognition features to ensure customers could find the correct items effortlessly.

Missing product parameters

Search results on Démos’s previous system often lacked critical product parameters, making it difficult for customers to refine their searches.

After Démos found a better solution provided by Shopsys for storing more accurate product data on their own, Luigi’s Box enhanced the search experience by including comprehensive product parameters in the product catalog. This lead to more accurate search results, better filtering, and easier decision-making for customers. Luigi’s Box also performs Automated Data Quality Checks so Démos can make sure their data stays correct when they add new products.

Manual product prioritization

With five domains and thousands of products, manually prioritizing items in categories proved to be unsustainable for Démos.

Luigi’s Box automated this process with personalized sorting, ensuring customers see the most relevant products without manual intervention. Additionally, Démos can still influence prioritization via Merchandising features, such as Product Boosting or Pin-to-Position.

Improving product recommendations

Démos used a self-developed recommendation system to provide the right product recommendations for customers, but it required a lot of manual work to function as intended. The company has a very large selection of products on five different domains, so providing the right recommendations manually would be very time-consuming and difficult to maintain.

Luigi’s Box Recommender uses analytics data from customer interactions to determine which products to suggest automatically. It does this individually for each customer, so the suggestions are always up-to-date and personalized for each of them. Luigi’s Box Recommender can therefore upsell, cross-sell, provide alternatives and complementary items accurately at all times.

The full Luigi’s Box product package brought great results on the website

The results were very positive, and they remain so to this day.

The search conversion rate went up by over 40%, while the average cart value from search sessions had an uplift of 97%.

Luigi’s Box Recommender also brought great results, with a 290% uplift in the click-through rate from personalized recommendations on the home page and a 55% uplift in the click-through rate from recommendations on item detail pages.

Démos received great results with Luigi’s Box Product Listing as well. It brought a 15% conversion rate and a 51% click-through rate.
