Chicco is an international company that focuses on children’s clothing, toys, and accessories. It has managed to grow from a single store in Italy into a popular brand. Chicco is also well-known for its social commitment actions, such as extensive charity work. The Romanian branch of Chicco wanted to focus on improving their online shopping experiences, and that’s how the search for the right search & discovery solution began.

Focus on Autocomplete and other improvements

Chicco discovered Luigi’s Box through one of our partners—ContentSpeed. Based on their advice, Chicco Romania decided to implement Luigi’s Box to improve the shopping experience on their website. This switch aimed to address challenges caused by Chicco’s previous search solution.

Advancements and categories in Autocomplete

Chicco’s previous solution had the Autocomplete feature as well, but it didn’t show many that valuable data for customers. The items in Autocomplete lacked pricing information, images, popular search queries, and even a CTA button that would guide customers to all results.

Solution

Luigi’s Box Search with Autocomplete provided a relief for these challenges. Further improvements were done with the addition of categories in Autocomplete. Customers can see and click on categories directly in Autocomplete and Search results, finding product categories quicker than before, and discovering new ones.

Two prices in results

Chicco needed a smart way to show two different prices in the search and autocomplete results to show customers value through price differences.

Solution

Luigi’s Box easily implemented this request. The first price is the listed price, while the second one is the recommended retail price. The setup also shows the percentage difference, so customers can easily see the value and how much they save on purchase thanks to this.

Search improvements

When a customer searched with the Romanian word for overalls (salopeta), the original search would return mixed products instead of specific ones that match the query exactly. The search proved difficult when working with synonyms and understanding customer intent. The previous search also struggled with personalizing results.

Solution

Luigi’s Box fixed all of these issues in one go. Luigi’s Box Search handles personalization from the start, and improves on the go as it gathers more customer data. Other improvements include the ability to add products to cart straight from search results and show customers if products are in stock. Thanks to working synonyms, the search returns more relevant results for individual customers.

Fixit rules addition

One of the most common challenges was related to “no search results” outcomes that customers caused by using very specific search queries or completely unrelated queries. These dead-end searches usually halted the shopping sessions and caused frustration.

Solution

Luigi’s Box offers a feature called Query Redirects that allow users to create rules for specific queries. These rules redirect customers from the original query to another to help them avoid “no results” and keep the search going. This way, Chicco was able to improve the conversion rate to 50% for the “vouchers” query that changes into “cupoane” (coupons in Romanian).

Chicco’s switch to Luigi’s Box brought great results mostly in Autocomplete performance. Luigi’s Box Autocomplete has reached a click-through rate of almost 48%. The search usage is 12% with less than 6% of searches without results.
